Pick a state below to open a calculator set to that state, or use the form above to compare states yourself.
Frequently asked questions
How is take-home pay calculated?
Federal income tax is figured on your pay after the standard deduction and any 401(k) contribution, using 2026 brackets. Social Security is 6.2% up to the wage base and Medicare is 1.45%, with an extra 0.9% on high earners. State tax uses an estimated rate for the state you pick.
Which states have no income tax on wages?
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming do not tax regular wages, so the calculator applies 0% state tax for them.
How accurate is this estimate?
These results are estimates for planning, not tax advice. They do not include local taxes, health insurance, or other payroll deductions.
